Charles "Chuck" Robert Udart

Charles “Chuck” Udart, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2015 at Elim Care in Fargo, ND after a long and exhausting struggle from severe complications of hereditary hemochromatosis. He was 72. Chuck had both a tremendous intellect and a generous soul. He loved people and was a devoted friend to all who knew him. Family and friends were very important to him. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to share whatever he had with others. He cherished his wife, daughters, grandchildren and family more than words can express.

Chuck was born in Rochester, New York on October 19, 1942 to William B. Udart Sr. and Julia A. (Darou) Udart. He was the 3rd of four children in the family. He received his formal education in Rochester, NY where he attended Catholic grammar school, then high school at Benjamin Franklin High. When his father passed away, Chuck entered the work force in sales at Patterson Parchment Paper Company in Rochester. After many promotions, he went to work for a small company in New Jersey that manufactured small office copiers, Dependable Business Systems. While in New Jersey, he met his future wife, Carol Hinch in 1971. Many would say it was love at first sight.

Carol and Chuck were married two years later, on May 26, 1973 in Brookside New Jersey. After less than one year of marriage, Dependable Business Systems relocated to Fargo, ND. So Chuck and Carol moved to Fargo, where they celebrated their first wedding anniversary. Two years later, the company folded, and Chuck went to work for Steiger Tractor of Fargo, where he was Wheel Operations Administrator. After leaving Steiger, he went to work for Fargo Paper Company, now Cole Papers, as a Marketing Manager. But his extensive interest and knowledge of computers led to his long term position as Network Administrator at Cole Papers, which he held for many years. He retired in 2008.

A great thinker about science and space, and mostly self-educated in these fields, Chuck was fascinated with the laws of gravity and time, even committing many of his ideas to paper. He was also self-educated in the world of personal computers, learning everything about them from reading manuals and learning on his first laptop computer. Golf, guns, and crossword puzzles were some of his many and diverse hobbies. In his later years, he became a real fan of playing Texas Hold’em poker, and played in many places around Fargo through the Dakota Poker League.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Carol; brother John C. Udart of Lyons, NY; daughter Terry Conrad (fiancé Anthony Daniele) of Pittsford, NY; daughter Stephanie (Brandon) Loock of Moorhead, MN; and grandchildren Michael Conrad of Plymouth, MI, Arielle Conrad of Lewisburg, PA, and Avery Alice Loock, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William B. Udart Sr. and Julia A. (Udart) Greene; brother William B. Udart Jr. and sister Marjorie (Udart) Walls.

Needless to say, Chuck (or Charlie as he is also known), will be missed terribly by all of us who knew and loved him. He has left a hole in our hearts that will never be completely filled. But as time passes, the hurt will ease, and we will remember with a smile on our faces the kind, gentle, generous, loving person he was. Rest in peace, Chuck, knowing you have left a most valuable legacy of family, friends and love here. Hopefully you will find an online poker game and a computer to play with in Heaven.
