Carolyn Ann (Nelson) Dahl passed away peacefully while comforted by family and staff at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND. Carolyn was 86 years old.
Carolyn Ann Nelson was born on a farm in Lockhart, (Norman County) MN on October 24, 1929 and baptized November 21, 1929 at Good Hope Lutheran Church, Shelly, MN. She was the oldest of four children born to Hilda and Oscar Nelson. She attended country school and graduated from Fertile High School, Fertile, MN. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND and worked at the Minneapolis Moline.
Carolyn was united in marriage to Norman O. Dahl on November 27, 1949 and they made their home in Fargo, ND. Carolyn was a branch sales manager for Sarah Coventry Jewelry for over 20 years and the activities director at Bethany Homes Retirement Living for over 24 years where she also obtained her certified nursing assistant (CNA) designation. She retired as the result of a stroke in 2003. Her determination and hopefulness was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Her greatest passion was her family. She was a devoted daughter, loving wife, adoring mom, “Grandma Honey” to her grandsons and great grandchildren, and beloved sister and aunt to her entire extended family. She was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served many roles including Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Wedding Consultant, and Circle member. She also was a member of the Sons of Norway Kringen Lodge and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She loved to travel throughout the United States, including Hawaii and multiple trips to Alaska to visit her daughter and family. Her trips abroad took her to Norway/Scandinavia, Europe, Australia, Canada, and Mexico. She enjoyed photography, music, and playing card games of all sorts.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband, Norman, Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo, ND; her daughter Debbie (Steve) Amundson, Pittsburgh, PA; her son David (Crystal) Dahl, Fargo, ND; 6 grandsons: Patrick (Emily) Amundson (Bremerton, WA), Ross (Jennifer) Amundson, (Fargo, ND), Erik Amundson (Anchorage, AK), Michael Dahl, Markus Dahl, and Mitchell Dahl (Fargo, ND); and 4 great grandchildren: Soren and Cormac Amundson and Lillian and Cora Amundson; a brother, Wallace Nelson, Harwood, ND; a sister, Betty (Gale) Karr, Tacoma, WA, and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Hilda Nelson and her brother Nordal Nelson.
Memorials may be given to Messiah Lutheran Church, The Hour of Worship, Bethany Homes, and the Sons of Norway Kringen Lodge.
