On Tuesday, July 26th, 2022, Carol, loving mother, sister, and aunt passed away in her home at Bethany, in Fargo, at the age of 74.

Carol Ann Steichen was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on August 26th, 1948. She was raised in Fargo with her four siblings. On April 26th, 1968, she married Lowell Skarie. The pair were together for many years, having and raising one daughter, Renae. They spent some time in California before returning to North Dakota and settling in a house in Horace, where they lived for many years.

Carol devoted most of her time as a stay-at-home mother and often had jobs doing general contracting work such as painting, repairing walls, and cleaning new homes. There wasn't much she couldn't do, and she was very self-sufficient. At one point, she even built her own set of kitchen cupboards for the home and planned her own remodel. At the age of 50, Carol was able to get her GED, which she was unable to complete in high school due to illnesses.

Carol had a very difficult life, but she was able to always keep a smile on her face and always had a joke ready for every situation. She particularly enjoyed trading jokes with her little brother, Jeff. In her nursing home, where she resided for the last eight years, she made many friends of the staff that saw her regularly, who enjoyed her sense of humor, and her entertaining television shows she loved to watch. She will be very much missed by many.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Caroll Steichen and Bernice Steichen, and her brothers, Jeff Steichen and Jerry Steichen. She is survived by her daughter, Renae Skarie, one sister, Connie Perez, one brother, Jim Steichen, and many nieces and nephews.
