Carol Peterson, 66, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully at her lake home on Strawberry Lake, Minnesota, Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Carol Wehking was born July 25, 1941, on the Wehking family farmstead in rural Hector, Minnesota, to Floyd and Lila (Buehler) Wehking. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and then received her Masters Degree from North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota. She taught for the Fargo Public School System for over 30 years and retired in 2000. She then taught Native American students in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota, until the present. She received many awards and recognitions throughout her career as an educator. She enjoyed writing poetry and found great peace and spirituality at the lake. During her education career, she had a large impact on everyone around her. She was a great mentor for all the students and teachers that she worked with. Carol was a real “free-spirit.” Carol is survived by her sons, Dan Peterson, Fargo, ND; Luke (Laura) Peterson, Yukon, OK; daughter, Rachel (Kevin) Blumhardt, Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Skye Peterson, Yukon, OK; brother, Henry (JoAnn) Wehking, Hector, MN; sister, Janet (Blair) Bauer, Dickinson, ND; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Wehking; eight nieces and nephews, Roy and Terry Wehking, Linda (Jay) Gilbertson, Jay (Carmen) Wehking, Brad (Jane) Wehking, David Wehking, Brett and Whitney Bauer. She was preceded in death by her parents; and oldest brother, Russell. Memorial Service: Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 2:00 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Two hours prior to the service.
