Carol J, Menzies

Carol Menzies (Thacker) was born on June 1, 1940, the daughter of George and Irene Thacker, in Grafton, ND. She grew up in Hamilton, ND and attended UND. She married Arnold Menzies on October 20, 1962, and they farmed in Hamilton until 1990, when Arnold passed away. Her years working were spent at Hillman’s Jewelry in Cavalier, ND and Wimmer’s Diamonds in Fargo. She had made Fargo, ND her home for the last 15 years. After a month-long battle with ARDS, Carol passed away August 28, 2014, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Carol will always be remembered for her amazing cooking and entertaining, love of good music, being an extraordinary mother, grandmother, friend--and just her overall genuine sparkle. Vivacious, funny, smart and beautiful, always youthful in mind and spirit, her 74 years on this earth were a true blessing. Carol's rich life is reflected in her loving children, grandchildren, family, and dear friends. She will be greatly missed.

Carol is survived by her two children Kari Achenbach (Wyoming, MN) and Robert Menzies (Fargo, ND), grandchildren Hannah and Jack Achenbach (Wyoming, MN) and Macy Marie Wheeler (Chandler, AZ), sisters Sandra (KC) Kuznia, Stephen, MN and Julie (Gary) Engebretsen, (Merrill, WI) and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Arnold, mother Irene and father George.
