Burton Wallace Larson

June 26, 1918 — June 5, 2018

Burton Wallace Larson died June 5, 2018 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Although he had resided at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the past few years, he still considered his address to be Argusville, ND.

Burton, the third child of Esther (Vinje) and Charles Larson, was born on June 26, 1918 on the family farm in Harwood Township, Cass County, ND. He completed grade school at “Sleepy Hollow” Harwood School #2 and graduated from Argusville High School in 1935. He was baptized and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church. His father died in 1937 and Burton was left to take care of the family during difficult economic times.

On November 26, 1949 he married Alice Wendelbo at the Grafton Lutheran Church. They began their marriage and farm life in Harwood Township just south of the “home place.” Burton farmed and raised Hereford cattle. He retired from farming in 1983 and his son Charles took over the farming operations.

Burton was an active member of the community-Secretary and Director of the Gardner Farmers Union Oil Co., member of the Argusville School Board, Harwood Township Supervisor, Director and President of the Harwood Farmers Elevator, member of the Argusville School Board, and Trustee, Deacon and President of the Nora Lutheran Church.

He bowled and played baseball and softball for many years. He loved to read and do crossword puzzles and he was a long-time member of the ND Farmers Union and the Eagles.

Burton is survived by his daughter, Helen (Ordean) Nygren, Bismarck, ND; grandson, Andrew (Holly) Nygren, Bismarck, ND; granddaughter, Maren (Justin) Gerhardt, Mandan, ND; great-grandchildren, Monica, Malayna, Michael and Matthew Gerhardt; brother, Alworth, Baton Rouge, LA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; son, Charles B. Larson, parents; brothers, Floyd, Maurice, and Edgar; and sister, Charlotte (Wayne) Owens.

Memorials are preferred to Nora Lutheran Church, Nora Cemetery, or Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the care given to Burton at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, ND.
