Bonnie Jean Wiberg, 70, of Fargo, ND died peacefully from chronic health issues on Thursday, November 25 in Bethany on 42nd with her family by her side.

Bonnie was born on June 18, 1951 to James Orvin and Helen Grace (Mellgren) Wiberg in Minneapolis, MN, where she grew up. She was confirmed in Richfield Lutheran Church and graduated from Washburn High in 1969. Early on she had an interest in caregiving and studied at Hennepin County General Hospital. She became a registered nurse, an accomplishment she was very proud of. Her nursing career included hospital and clinical work, as well as home health care.

As a young adult, she moved to Houston, Texas and decided she liked warmer winters. She settled in Roanoke, Virginia where she worked in health care, was part of the community and made many friends. She enrolled in the National Business College to pursue medical secretarial studies and graduated in 1999.

In 2004 Bonnie moved to Fargo to be closer to family. This meant a lot to her and her relatives. She had a special attachment to and love for animals and was thrilled to rescue a kitty, the first pet of her own. Pinkie became her loyal companion for nearly fifteen years.

Bonnie had a quiet strength that allowed her to overcome many challenges. Although sad, it was fitting that she died on Thanksgiving Day for she lived a life of gratitude and those she leaves behind are grateful to have known and love her. She set an example of how to live: be gentle, caring, and kind; accept adversity, especially health issues, with grace and no complaint; be interested in others and take time to hear their stories; and above all else, have a smile on your face and a laugh in your heart. Even in her final days she had a smile for everyone and still made us laugh with her wonderful sense of humor and wit. She will be dearly missed.

Bonnie is survived by her sister, Marcia (Ken) Retzer, Fargo; brother Tim (June) Wiberg, Brooklyn Park, MN; nephew Jesse (Nina) Retzer, Edina, MN; niece Jennifer (Skyler) Akason, Fargo; great-nephews Gavin, Noah, Jack, and Andrew; stepbrothers Jeff (Anne) Bodin, Carthage, NC; Rick (Kim) Bodin, Grand Rapids, MN; Tim (Terri) Bodin, Wayzata, MN, and their families; many cousins and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and stepmother Ellie (Strom) Wiberg.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, December 14 at First Lutheran Church (Fargo). Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be June 18 at Lakewood Cemetery (Minneapolis).

Memorials may be given to Homeward Animal Shelter, the American Diabetes Association, or to the charity of your choice.

The family expresses sincere thanks and appreciation to all the staff at Bethany and Ethos Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
