Beulah Jeanette (Olson) Forness was born to Enoch and Betsy Olson December 5th, 1931. Her childhood was spent on the family farm near Buxton, North Dakota. She loved being a farm girl and was always one at heart. Beulah attended a one room grade school at Wold #2 and high school at Oak Grove Lutheran School in Fargo, graduating in 1949. She then went on to St. Joseph's School of Nursing at St. John's Hospital in Fargo and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1952.
During nursing school Beulah fell in love with obstetrics and the miracle of birth. She enrolled in the Frontier Nursing Service School of Midwifery in Hyden, Kentucky to serve impoverished families and combine her love of obstetrics and horses, often riding horseback into remote areas of the hills to deliver babies. After returning to Fargo, Beulah continued nursing at St. Ansgar Hospital and in later years at Villa Maria Nursing Home.
In 1958 Beulah married Palmer Forness at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo. They started a family in north Fargo and had a small acreage out of town with a milk cow, horses and garden. In 1970 they moved to a farmstead west of Fargo where they created a wonderful oasis for their seven children to experience the joys and lessons of childhood. Beulah loved sharing her home with many area children, neighbors, and extended family as they shared in the activities of the seasons, sledding, skating, riding horse, sleeping on the hayrack, watching the sun rise at "cross hill", bonfires and picnics.
Beulah loved gardening and always had a huge vegetable garden as well as many beautiful flower beds. She cherished the peaceful, early mornings in the garden with her Savior. She also loved to paint and was accomplished at rosemaling and china painting.
More than anything, Beulah loved her children and family. Her dearest friend was Jesus and she trusted Him completely until going home on July 9th, 2021. Beulah was proceeded in death by her parents, Enoch and Betsy Olson, sister, Loretta Thorsen, and her husband, Palmer Forness. She is survived by her two sisters, Harriet Olson and Muriel Hoplin, seven children: Julie Newgard, Joslin (Charlie) Bullock, Morgan (Kimberly) Forness, Marshall (Denise) Forness, Bradly (Sara) Forness, Jason (Michelle) Forness, Jonathan (Stephanie) Forness, and 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
