Betty Stanaway, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 84, of Fargo, ND, joined Loel for their eternal dance on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Eventide at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, ND. If you had the pleasure of meeting her, you are as lucky as we are for having known this spunky, loving and wonderful woman.
Betty Marguerite Smith was born November 8, 1933 in Richland Township, Michigan to Owen E. and Lulu M. Smith. She married the love of her life, Loel C. Stanaway on June 8, 1956. They raised their family in Battle Creek and Buchanan, Michigan, before moving to Gwinner, North Dakota in November of 1973. After the children graduated, they lived in Bismarck, ND and later moved to Fargo.
Betty enjoyed volunteer work with the church and other organizations in Fargo along with being a dedicated homemaker and matriarch. She also worked as a telephone operator and in her later years at Target. Her hobbies included knitting, needlework, fishing, and penny slots at the casino.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Paul Galaski) Stephens, Farmington, MN; Beth (Todd Leon) Johnson, West Fargo, ND; son, Brian (Mindy Conradi) Stanaway, Bigfork, MN; grandchildren, Randie Johnson, Mandie (Adrian) Carbajal, Nicole Stanaway, Patrick (Heather Lendway) Stanaway, Bethany (Peter) Crubaugh, Joshua (Brooke Horlocher) Johnson, Tyler (Madison Ramberg) Stephens; great-grandchildren, KaeLeigh (Marquelle Tandeski) Johnson, Diamond Johnson, Gage Carbajal, Lauriana Johnson, Casey Crubaugh; and soon-to-be baby girl Crubaugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loel; parents; six brothers and one sister.
