Betty Jean (Hendrickson) Schurdevin, 87, died Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Bethany Homes on 42nd under the care of Ethos Hospice.
Betty Jean Hendrickson was born March 13, 1936, to Eino and Tillie (Wiire) Hendrickson in New York Mills, MN. She was raised on the family farm with her siblings, Marshall, Alice, Bernice, Barbara, and Hazel.
She graduated from New York Mills High School in 1954. She received her nursing training at Cook Co. Hospital in Chicago, IL. After training, she returned home, where she met Robert (Bob) Siebels. They were married in February 1957 in Perham, MN. They moved to Oshkosh, WI, where their 3 children, Richard, Marsha, and Kathleen, were born.
They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1962, where Betty began her nursing career at St. Ansgar Hospital, starting in Pediatrics before transitioning to Surgical Technician for 20 years until her retirement. Bob passed away in May 1972.
Betty married Roy Schurdevin September 30, 1989. They made their home in many different places, from Fargo to Detroit Lakes and wintering in Texas. Roy passed away in January 2019.
Betty was a devout Catholic who enjoyed singing with the choir and participating with various organizations at St. Francis de Sales church through the years. She also enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her children, Rick (Christi) Siebels, Moorhead, MN and Marsha Johnson, Fargo, ND; stepdaughter, Lynette Schurdevin, Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Mildred Noaeill, Oak Grove MN; son-in-law, Glen Vanguilder, St. Paul, MN; 7 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, daughter Kathy, Stepson Lee, and step-grandson Jake Peterson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead, with a visitation one hour prior. A Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 29 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, with a visitation from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Moorhead.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Ethos and Bethany for their dedicated care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ethos Hospice.
