Betty L. Koshnick

December 11, 1922 — August 8, 2013

On August 8, 2013, Betty Lois Koshnick nee Christensen (age 90) passed away while a resident at the Kind-er Care Home. She moved to the Waterford Retirement Center in 2009 from their home of 35 years, after the death of her husband; and then in 2012 to Kind-er Care, where she received loving and compassionate care.

Betty was born on December 11, 1922 in Flaxton, ND, to Iver and Myrtle (Boesen) Christensen. She graduated from Borup, MN high school. In addition, she completed a 2 year teaching certificate from Moorhead State College. She was the second of 5 children. Betty maintained a close relationship with her three sisters and her brother throughout her life.

Betty met her beloved husband of 65 years while both were students at Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN. She married Robert A Koshnick on September 12, 1942 in Wilmington, SC, as he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army. After WWII, they returned to live in Fargo, ND where they raised their 3 children. Betty was active as a den mother in Scouts for her sons and Campfire Girls for her daughter. She was active with her family in camping trips and playing golf, as well as encouraging their activities in music, sports and attending theatre. She loved her family, spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved traveling with Bob around the world including Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Betty was active in many organizations. She did volunteer work at St Luke’s Hospital where she helped establish the Candy Striper program. She also enjoyed teaching Junior Great Books. Betty was an active participant, as well as a past president, of the League of Women Voters; past president (1987-88) of the Fine Arts Club, where she actively participated in the Drama and Literature programs. She was a life member of The Round Table Club of Fargo. When her youngest graduated from high school, Betty became very successful working in real estate with her husband; first at Asp Real Estate and later at Koshnick Real Estate, until their retirement. She was also active in bridge and pinochle card clubs with her husband.

Betty is survived by her children: Robert Koshnick, Jr. MD (Loxley) of Detroit Lakes, MN; Andrea Koshnick of Medford, OR; William Koshnick (Kate) of Fargo, ND. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Damian Koshnick (Jen) Flagstaff, AZ; Rebecca Koshnick, (Jon Donaldson) Minneapolis, MN; Kaliandra Jones (Brian) Seattle, WA; Nicholas Koshnick (Maureen Hillenmeyer), Palo Alto, CA; 8 great-grandchildren: Samuel and Timothy Lindley; Tallulah, Matilda, and Esme Jones; Colgan and Eva Koshnick; and Boden Donaldson. Also siblings: Gwen (Ralph) Peterson, Carol Stensgaard, and Claude Christensen.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Robert A Koshnick Sr; granddaughter, Donna Lindley, and sister, Donna Christensen.
