Betty Lou (Patneaude) De La Garza, 55, of Halstad, MN, passed away October 27, 2016 at Altru Hospital,Grand Forks ND, surrounded by loved ones.
Betty was born November 7, 1960, the daughter of Alphonse Patneaude Sr. and Georgiana (Jackson) Patneaude. She grew up on the family farm outside of Bagley, MN, where she enjoyed horseback riding. She attended Bagley public schools, where she enjoyed playing basketball and playing percussion.
Betty married Ciro De La Garza on June 3, 1977 and lived in Hillsboro while she attended Mayville State University. They planted their roots in Halstad, MN where they lived for over 30 years raising their two sons, Ciro Jr. and Aaron. Betty worked for Aarstaad Potato Farms for years and also worked as certified nurse’s aid at the Halstad nursing home. Betty went back to school and received a degree as a medical secretary. She went on to work as a medical secretary for a hospital in Fargo ND.
Betty enjoyed writing in her journals, writing letters to friends and family, bonfires, listening to country music and rock n roll, playing bingo, and going to concerts. Betty was always willing to help out anyone that needed it. She never judged anyone, and treated friends like family. She had a great spirit, smile and laugh. She was an avid animal lover who loved her dogs, and always made donations to the humane society of America. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren either in person or by phone often sending them homemade cards in the mail.
Betty is survived by her husband Ciro Sr.; her children, Ciro Jr. (Amanda) De La Garza, West Fargo, ND; Aaron (Blair) De La Garza Portage, WI; two brothers, Alphonse Jr (Gloria) Patneaude, Lawrence, KS, Blaine (Connie) Patneaude, Van Buren, AR; seven grandchildren, Jade Nelson, Jasmine Nelson, Kaden DeLaGarza, Isaac DeLaGarza, Haley DeLaGarza, Madisyn DeLaGarza, Mason DeLaGarza.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Alphonse Sr. and Georgiana Patneaude; and her sister, Mavis Stewart.
