Betty Mae Christianson, 90, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Edgewood Vista in Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Betty was born on March 29, 1933, in Amenia, North Dakota, to Lloyd and Gladys Brekke. She grew up in Amenia, Casselton, and Fargo, North Dakota, and graduated from Fargo Central in 1951.
On August 23, 1952, Betty married Carmen Christianson at Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo. They shared over 62 years of marriage.
Betty and Carmen were lifelong members of Elim Lutheran Church and also belonged to the Elks, Eagles, and Moose Lodge, where they cherished the friendships they made. She worked at Monarch Photo in Fargo for many years before retiring in 1987.
They spent summers at their lake home on Lake Lizzie and winters in Mesa, Arizona, creating lasting memories with family and friends. They returned to Fargo in 2010.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother known for her delicious baking and hosting memorable parties. Her vibrant personality, impeccable style, love for shopping, and generous spirit were legendary among those who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her friends, family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Carmen, parents, and brother Harold Brekke. She is survived by her sister Mavis Madsen, brother John Brekke (Jean), children Craig Christianson (Tracie Lehman), Kim Sholy (George), Kari Christianson (Bill Martodam), grandchildren Krista Sholy, Daniel Sholy (Jenta), Christian Colman, Nicole Smith, and Casey (Coleen) Smith, and great-grandchildren Daxton and Blakely Sholy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Special thanks to Edgewood Vista and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their care.
