Betty Barnard

Betty Jean (Lee) Barnard was born February 20, 1928, to parents Richard and Nellie (Daily) Lee. She grew up in Pillsbury, ND, where she also graduated from high school. Betty married Lyle Barnard on November 3, 1946, in Pillsbury. The couple lived in Fargo, ND, from 1946 until their move to Illinois in 1958. They retired to Detroit Lakes, MN, in 1975 and Betty returned to Fargo in 1998 after Lyle’s death. She volunteered at Sanford Health in Fargo and also with the Linus Project, where she crocheted blankets for charity. Betty worked at Lee Wards in Elgin, IL, for many years and was an avid bowler. She was “Grammie” to 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Betty died at the age of 84 on April 30, 2012, in her home under the care of Hospice. Betty is survived by her daughter Marcia (Craig) Fischbach of East Dundee, IL; sons Patrick (Linda) Barnard of West Dundee, IL, and Joel (Peggy) Barnard of Crystal Lake, IL; sister Gloria Arend of Auburn, WA; brothers Harvey Lee of TX, Richard Lee of Fargo, ND, Peter Lee of Finley, ND, Robert Lee of MI, and Glen Lee of Federal Way, WA; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Nellie Lee, husband Lyle Barnard, and daughter Betty Lee Barnard. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 2:00pm at the Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley (1701 38th St S, Ste 101, Fargo, ND 58103) or to the charity of choice.
