Bernice E. Zitzow, 92, of Moorhead, MN died February 26, 2018 at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, MN.
Bernice Edith Krahn was born December 31, 1925 to Peter and Katherine (Buller) Krahn in Cavalier County, North Dakota. She was baptized June 5, 1938 at South Mennonite Church of Alsen, ND and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND on December 11, 1949 by Reverend Arnold Grumm. After graduating from Langdon High School in 1945, Bernice went on to attend and receive a degree from North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND.
Bernice married Gordon R. Zitzow on January 12, 1950 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. They made their residence in Moorhead where they raised five children. Her formal education led to a career as a bookkeeper at Kerr Dairy, Bardwell Robinson Building Supply and Forbes Architectural Products. Until her retirement, she was the bookkeeper for Moorhead Linoleum and Tile Co., a business of which Gordon was part owner. Bernice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND and active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also served as treasurer for PACE (Parents Active in Christian Education) for five years.
Bernice was an amazing mother and role model. As a homemaker she loved gardening, sewing and baking. Traveling, camping and walking through the woods were also activities she enjoyed sharing with her family. Her passion for all of these things was passed on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by her four daughters, Deborah (Barry) Brownstein, Thornton, NH; Vicki (Leslie) Harrison, Joan (Brian) Muehler, Lois (Dale) Birkeland, and her son Daniel (Karol) Zitzow, all of Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren and four great-grandsons; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon in 2007, her immediate family and a grandson, Timothy Zitzow.
Thank you to Pastor Streed and the staff at Eventide for their care these past many years.
