Bernice Clarice Paulson, 94, of Fargo passed away April 18, 2017 at Eventide Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo, ND.
Bernice was born on February 26, 1923, on the family farm south of Roseau, MN, to Nils and Carolina Johnson. She was the youngest child, with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Growing up in a large farm family, she enjoyed celebrating birthdays with her siblings, visiting friends and neighbors, picking blueberries in the Beltrami forest, and participating in many other activities in the area.
She attended Malung Grade School and Roseau High School. Following high school, she attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, taking a secretarial course.
During World War II she worked as a Clerk in the Roseau County Selective Service office. Later she worked as a Clerk-Secretary for Prior Electric of Roseau and at the time of her marriage she held a Civil Service position as Secretary-Clerk for the Farmers Home Administration in Roseau.
Before marriage, she enjoyed being with her friends, including neighboring farm girls, attending most of the area dances and other activities.
She met Glenn Paulson, who was working as a telegrapher at the Roseau Great Northern railroad station. They were married in the Roseau English Lutheran Church on June 21, 1952. They lived on a 6 acre farmstead near Roseau, where they started a family. In 1962, they moved to Fargo, ND when Glenn was transferred there. A few years later, Bernice worked as Secretary-Clerk with Resco Rural Electric Supply in Moorhead, MN. They furnished line material to rural electric companies. She retired in 1985.
Following marriage, she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, tending her garden and flowers, as well as cooking and baking. She enjoyed fellowship with friends in the Eunice Circle at Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo. After retirement, she and Glenn enjoyed traveling to Sweden, Norway, Alaska, and Hawaii, as well as their annual winter visits to Santa Barbara, CA. They enjoyed spending their summers at the Minnesota lake cabin near Vergas.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Glenn; daughter, Barbara (Gordy) Johnson, Omaha; sons, Don (Mary), Green Bay, WI, and Mark of Fargo; grandchildren, Nathan Johnson, Derek (Maka) Johnson, Sean (Julie) Johnson, Isaac (Sharon) Paulson, Monica Paulson, Amber Paulson, Amy (Nic) Gray, and Brady Paulson, as well as great-grandchildren, Miles and Dylan Johnson, and Logan and Conner Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her son James, parents, and all of her siblings.
