Bernice (Ivesdal) Eidem, age 93, died July 26 at Bethany Homes.
Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend to many. She will be most remembered for her love, patience, sense of humor and her unwavering faith in the Lord.
She was born August 25, 1921, on the family farm to John and Mabel (Lee) Ivesdal near Edmore, ND. She attended country school and graduated from Edmore High School. Bernice married Glenn (Bob) Eidem in 1942 and relocated to southern California since Bob was employed there. During WWII she worked in a defense factory. She later worked for a printer designing invitations, programs, and menus before graphic design was computerized.
Bernice enjoyed life to the fullest. They also spent many years square dancing with friends, traveling to many locations for the opportunity to dance. Bernice designed and sewed their square dancing costumes, matching her dresses with Bob's shirts.
Her family and friends were the inspiration she utilized for many talents. Quilting, sewing clothes, paper arts, embroidery, and china dolls were all crafted with love. She was the queen of crafting and made beautiful and practical items that were shared with her beloved daughter, family and friends.
Bernice and Bob were actively involved in their local church in CA.
In 1989 Bernice and Bob moved from Culver City to Camarillo, CA. In 2008, they moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Fargo. She had been living at Bethany since 2011.
Bob died in 2013. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo.
Bernice is survived by her sister, Joyce Larsen of Fargo , her son-in-law Billy Starnes of Floresville, TX. her sister-in-law Jean Ivesdal of Devils Lake, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Bob, daughter Jeanne Starnes, and siblings Thelmer Ivesdal, Harold Ivesdal, B. Clifford Ivesdal, John M. Ivesdal, Esther Johnson, Thelma Gibson, Lillian Ivesdal, Jenet Ottoson, Ruby Raymond, Joan Sheveland.
