Bernard “Bernie” Vanyo died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo.
Bernie was born on October 9, 1926, in Tabor, MN, to Mike and Rose (Strauss) Vanyo. He was well-educated and graduated from Wahpeton Science in 1949 to begin his career in the printing industry. He owned two newspapers and eventually operated a commercial print shop for 40 years. He had an artistic flair and took great pride in his work. He had a passion for cars and had a used car dealership in conjunction to the print shop.
Bernard was married to Marjorie (Stevens) for 52 years. They had five children Mark, Jane, Jim (Jenny), Jade, and Joanne, and two grandchildren Jazlyn and Lynzee. He also enjoyed his family pets Peaches, Prince Jasper, Yogi Bear, and Isadora Duncan. Bernie was on a champion bowling team, loved to golf, and watched both golf and football faithfully.
Bernie appreciated the simple things in life and was kind, generous, and trusting to all. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bernie is survived by his wife Marjorie; five children; two grandchildren; brothers Mike (Jeannie), Ray (Flo), Larry, and Len; and sister, Adeline (Bob) Gador.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Rose Vanyo and brothers, Vince, Ernie, and Clem.
Funeral: Thursday, September 20, 2:00pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Fargo, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday, September 19, from 5-7pm at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo, with a Prayer Service following at 7pm.
Burial: St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Moorhead, MN.
