Benjamin “Ben” Thad Gauger died Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Larimore, North Dakota. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1258 North Broadway, Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 24, 2022, with Rev. Bernard Worral officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home.
Ben was born on August 11, 1975, in Hankinson, North Dakota, to Reuel Carl Walter Gauger and Janice Cheryl (Jeske) Gauger. He attended the Anne Carlsen School (now the Anne Carlsen Center) through the 7th grade and graduated from Griggs County Central High School in 1995. He was a resident of New Horizons Manor in Fargo for over 20 years.
From an early age, Ben loved language. An impeccable speller, he won a spelling contest in 8th grade. He enjoyed writing and loved reading, especially science fiction. Although it took time for him to open up to people, he could surprise you with his memory of people, places, and events, and he could tell a good story once he felt comfortable with you. Ben was also a devout Christian and a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He participated in church youth group activities at Immanuel and St. Andrew Lutheran Church, West Fargo. One of his most joyous experiences was going to a church youth camp in the summer of 1997.
Ben was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Janice, of Olney, Texas; brother Timothy Gauger of Montreal, Québec, Canada; and sister Amanda Gauger-Lowe, who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, with her husband Eric Lowe and her two children, Noah Orozco and Isaiah Lowe.
Memorials can be made in Ben's name via a donation to Anne Carlsen Center, PO Box 8000, Jamestown, ND 58402.
