Beatrice Elaine Kartenson

July 22, 1927 — January 5, 2014

Bea Kartenson, 86, passed away on January 5th, 2014, at her home in Fargo, North Dakota. Beatrice Elaine Jones was born on July 22nd, 1927 to Frank and Grace (Gold) Jones at St. John's Hospital in Fargo, and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1945.

Bea met Gordon Kartenson in the fall of 1945 when they were both attending NDAC (NDSU). She later worked in the radiology Department of St. John's and St. Luke's hospitals. On October 14th, 1950, Bea and Gordon were married at Plymouth Congregational Church in Fargo and made their home in North Fargo where they raised their family.

Bea was a fun loving and generous person. She enjoyed cooking for family get-togethers and hosting parties for their many friends. Bea was an active member of Plymouth Congregational Church and served on many committees, participated in various women's fellowship groups as well as singing in the choir for over 35 years. She loved singing and participated in several church and El Zagel Shrine musicals and shows. She was an excellent seamstress and received many compliments on the clothing she made for herself and her family. Bea belonged to several clubs and organizations including PEO, the music section of the Fine Arts Club, and the women's auxiliary of the El Zagel Temple. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed working in her garden and sharing with her family and friends.

Bea and Gordon traveled the world together and enjoyed their winters spent in Desert Hot Springs, CA, but Bea's favorite places were her home in Fargo and the Minnesota lake cabin, spending time with her family.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her three brothers, Vance, Kenneth and Frank, one sister, Margery, and two sons, Barry and Bruce.

Beatrice is survived by her husband, Gordon Kartenson, daughter, Cynthia (Dale) Lura, Fargo, son Brian (Kathi Hoylo) Kartenson, Moorhead, grandsons, Jeremy Lura, Chad Kartenson, Sam Kartenson and Tor Kartenson, and grandchildren, Gillian and Ian Lura.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 9th, 2014 at Plymouth Congregational Church, Fargo, ND

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the Red River Valley or Plymouth Congregational Church.
