Barbara Ridenour

Barbara Ridenour died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at age 76, in her home. Barbara Leah Aufmann was born January 1, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Pearl (Kurth) Aufmann. She was baptized on February 18, 1934, at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Chicago. She attended St. Gertrude Elementary School and Immaculata High School in Chicago. Barbara married Roger M. Sedlmayr on November 29, 1952, in Chicago. They made their home on Chicago’s north side, and their marriage was blessed with one son, Roger. They moved to Tucscon, Arizona, in 1962. Barbara worked as a secretary in Chicago and Tucscon. On August 29, 1969, she completed nursing training. She was a hospital and office nurse in Tucson and Prescott, Arizona. She retired in 1999. On July 4, 1992, Barbara married Donald E. Ridenour. They made their home in Prescott, Arizona, where both of them worked at the Ft. Whipple V.A. Medical Center. They enjoyed traveling together, hiking, good friends and their two dogs, Laverne and Shirley. After Don’s death, she moved to Fargo for a short time and then to Fox Lake, Illinois, to help care for her parents. Barbara loved to read and collected a large library of books. She enjoyed shopping. She traveled and took bus trips throughout the upper Midwest and to Alaska in recent years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Barbara moved to Fargo in June to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fargo, ND. She is survived by her son, Reverend Roger (Joyce) Sedlmayr, Fargo, ND; granddaughters, Niccole (Jonathan) Walla, Fairbanks, Alaska; Danielle (Thomas) Reher, Zionsville, Indiana; grandsons, Roger and Joel of Fargo; brothers, James (Lois) Aufmann, Antioch, Illinois; Thomas (Kris) Aufmann, Palatine, Illinois; sister, Dorothy Ryckaert, Bartlett, Illinois; 10 nieces and 6 nephews; aunt, Gertrude Grant, Green Valley, Arizona; brother-in-law, Floyd (Jane) Sedlmayr, Tucson, Arizona; step-children, Donna (David) Lewis; Laura (Barry) MacBan; Cary (Crista) Ridenour; also, Roger M. (Barbara) Sedlmayr, Tucson, Arizona. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph; brother-in-law, Don Ryckaert; and husband, Don. Funeral: Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 2:00 PM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, July 7, 2010, from 5-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Burial: East Lawn Palms Cemetery, Tucson, Arizona.
