Barbara Ann Nelson, 70, of Fargo, ND died July 19, 2020 at Essentia Health, Fargo, surrounded by love.
Barbara was born on August 22, 1949 to George and Marcie Huser in New Richmond, WI. She graduated from Kennedy High School in Bloomington, MN. Barbara attended Mankato State University in Mankato, MN.
Barbara worked at Peilen and Peilen Insurance Agency in Minneapolis for 25 years.
Barbara married Lee Nelson on July 26, 1985 in Minneapolis, who brought with him a beautiful daughter, Jamie. On June 29, 1987 they welcomed their son, Joshua, into the world to complete their family.
Barbara was a reader who enjoyed mystery/crime novels, an avid gardener and an animal lover. She had a big heart for any person or animal in need and often demonstrated it through philanthropy.
As she became more sick, her desire to give back to her community only increased and she continually put the needs of others before her own. She accepted her diagnosis and was determined to help so many people in the time she had left. Her pride and joy for the past seven years was purchasing winter coats for all the children at the YWCA Women’s Shelter to ensure they were protected and cared for during Fargo’s harsh winters. It was very important to Barb that each coat was new, high quality and unique to make each child feel special. The Nelson family will continue her legacy and donate coats in her memory.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 yeears, Lee; mother, Marcie Huser; daughter, Jamie Clifton; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Rebekah Nelson; as well as three grandsons she adored, Connor Clifton, Graham Nelson and Isaac Nelson. She is also survived by her four siblings, Marcy (Paul) Kilpela, Bill (Robyn) Huser, Susan (Terry) Lutz and Patricia Kells. She is preceded in death by her father, George Huser.
The Nelson Family would like to issue a special thank you to our dear friends Paul and Jan Bordonaro, who have loved and supported us through this difficult time in extraordinary ways.
A special thank you also to Tom and Deb Smithson for their steadfast support through continual prayers and immeasurable blessings.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the YWCA Women’s Shelter located in Fargo, ND or an animal rescue in her honor.
Memorial services will be held in Fargo soon and Minneapolis at a later date. Dates will be published in the local paper once dates have been decided.
