A proud veteran who loved his family, his church and tasty kuchen, has sadly left us for heaven. You can almost hear the signature chuckle of Arlyn Mogck, as departed family and friends there welcomed him.
Arlyn was 88 when he died Sunday at Essentia Health.
The Kulm, ND native never forgot where he came from, and remained connected to that region of North Dakota for decades.
His legendary trips to Wishek and Ashley, ND for sausage and kuchen, resulted in family and friends always getting stocked up on the German delicacies.
Arlyn, who was known to many as Archie, was born the son of Irvin and Anna Mogck in 1930.
In 1951, he joined the Army and was proud to serve his country in Korea. In 1951 he married Kulm's, Joan Kinslow. Arlyn attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, and spent years in the accounting industry, and was happy to work with farm co-ops up and down the valley.
As their four children grew, Arlyn and Joan never missed a game or event at the rink or ball diamond. As grandchildren arrived and retirement became a reality, grandkids' soccer, music, ROTC, tennis, track, hockey, baseball and church events became part of daily life.
He was always there to write and call his grandchildren with encouragement, congratulations, words of wisdom and life lessons they all use today as young adults. All this was usually followed up with a case of gatorade or box of Wishek sausage.
A recent highlight for Arlyn was traveling on the 2015 WDAY Honor Flight to Washington, DC. He wore his Honor Flight jacket and Korean War Veteran hat everyday.
Grieving his loss, but celebrating a great life are: his wife of 67 years, Joan, daughter Denise Miller (Ralph) sons Devin (Dawne), Dana (Krisanne), Darin (Dawn) and grandchildren Joe, Jeramie, Anne, Lynsey, Gunnar, Annika, Bergen, and Jacob. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister, Betty (Darwin) Konrad, and brother, Curt (Erma), who talked with Arlyn daily. Arlyn also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
