Arlene was born in Mayville, ND to Earl and Anna (Hanson) Nelson on September 4, 1928, the third of seven children. She grew up on the family farm near Mayville, helping with many chores and her younger brothers. After graduating from Mayville High School, she attended Fargo Business College. While living in Fargo, she was setup on a blind date with DeWayne Peterson who became her husband on December 22, 1951. Arlene and DeWayne lived in many places through the years, settling in Bismarck, ND to raise their children, Kent and Sheri. After DeWayne’s retirement, they moved to Fargo where they have made their home for 25 years.
Arlene took great pride in creating a wonderful home for her family. Her passion in life was for DeWayne, Kent, Sheri and her extended family. Arlene was a phenomenal cook and baker, often sharing her delicious treats with others. Arlene and DeWayne participated in every family event, creating wonderful memories shared by her brothers, sister and their families. A very talented crafter, Arlene specialized in Hardanger embroidery. Her beautiful pieces decorate her home and many family members.
Under the care of Red River Valley Hospice, Arlene passed away at home surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, DeWayne; son, Kent (Houston, TX); son-in-law, Steve Bjorgan; sister, Clarice DePaolis; brothers, Truman Nelson, Earl (Wilma) Nelson, Wayne (Sylvia) Nelson and Alfred (Nora) Nelson and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sheri Peterson Bjorgan; brother, Norman Nelson and nephew, Brian Nelson.
