Arlene Gail Horwart, 68, of Fargo, ND, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, in her Fargo home. Arlene was born August 2, 1940, to Oscar and Gladys Hanson (Dragland) in McVille, ND. The oldest of five children, Arlene attended school in Sharon and Aneta, ND. She married Richard Horwart and they had two children, Laura Whitmore (Greg) and Rick Horwart (Leslie). Richard and Arlene lived in Hope, ND, from 1964 to 1980 where Arlene was a homemaker and waitress. More recently, Arlene worked as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Dilworth, MN, and retired in 2005. Arlene loved meeting and visiting with her Wal-Mart friends and customers. Arlene was the Wal-Mart Employee of the Month numerous times. Arlene has five grandchildren, Tony, Jaci (Josh), Joshua, Alexa and Brent. Arlene treasured her grandchildren and enjoyed reading to them and playing with them at the Fargo playgrounds. Arlene loved to play cards and board games. She was also an avid scrabble player and used her vocabulary knowledge to humble her opponents. Arlene loved to garage sale and searched all of north Fargo for the best deals on clothes and books for herself and her grandkids. Arlene is preceded in death by her father, Oscar; mother, Gladys and brother, Orris. Arlene is survived by her brothers, Dennis Hanson (Mary); James Hanson (Darlene); sister, Estelle Hieggelke (Curtis); and sister-in-law, Geri Hanson. Family visitation: Friday, March 20, 2009, at Noon, at Hope Lutheran, Fargo North Sanctuary. Visitation: Friday, March 20, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. at Hope Lutheran, Fargo North Sanctuary. Funeral service: Friday, March 20, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at Hope Lutheran Church, Fargo North Sanctuary. Burial: Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead, MN. Memorials: Please direct to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arlene found, joy, hope and laughter in her family, friends, and co-workers. Her family asks that you continue to spread that joy, hope, and laughter today with the people in your lives.
