Arlene Elinor Classon

March 22, 1929 — January 14, 2019

Arlene Elinor Classon (Vangsnes), of Fargo, ND died on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Rosewood on Broadway surrounded by her family. Arlene was born on March 22, 1929, the daughter of the late Ben and Olga Vangsnes. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Central High School.

Arlene met the love of her life while working at Northern Drug in Fargo. They were married at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church on June 27, 1952. She stayed home with her daughters for several years until she started working at the Opportunity School in Fargo where her oldest daughter, Mary Beth attended school. After the Opportunity School closed she began working at Woodrow Wilson with children with special needs and later became the secretary at the school until she retired on May 5, 1993. Arlene didn’t stay home long after retiring and soon began working at Longfellow Elementary in Fargo as a Para-professional. Once she permanently retired she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Arlene loved spending summers with her daughters, granddaughters and great grandson at the cabin on Lake Lizzie. A cabin that was built by her father and a neighbor the summer of 1959. The cabin was and continues to be a place of love, laughter and cherished memories. She also loved visiting her sister and family taking many trips to Rapid City, South Dakota; She loved the Black Hills. Arlene’s most cherished memories were all of the time she was able to spend with her granddaughters as they grew up and then the ten years with her great-grandson. Arlene was a member of the Doin’ Dozen Homemakers for over 40 years, a group of women she truly enjoyed being with.

Arlene is survived by her loving husband Douglas of 66 years also of Rosewood on Broadway; daughters, Julie (Mike) Jacobson, Fargo, ND, Ann Classon, Lake Park, MN, granddaughters, Jamie Wilson, Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer Vincent (Justin Nord), Rothsay, MN, Erica Werner (fiance, Ted), Fargo, ND and a very special Great Grandson Benjamin Douglas Wilson, sister-in-law Donna (Neil) Modin, Bismarck, ND as well as her uncle Arnie Gunness, Alexandria, MN numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Beth Classon, parents, Ben and Olga Vangsnes, father and mother in law, Clarence and Thelma Classon, sister Vangie & Joe Meyers, brother in law. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 18, 2019

The family would like to thank Rosewood on Broadway for the many years of loving care they provided Arlene and continue to provide for her husband, Douglas.
