Anton “Tony” Schreiner passed away peacefully at Sanford Health in Fargo on August 13, 2023.
Tony was born in Linton, ND. He was raised on the family farm in Cogswell, where he graduated from high school in 1954. From there, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was an airplane mechanic; after his honorable discharge, he attended Dakota Business College. In March 1970, Tony joined the North Dakota Air National Guard, 119th Fighter Wing, retiring in October 1988 as a Senior Master Sergeant.
Tony was united in marriage to Pamela “Pam” Oberg in 1960. He was employed with R.F. Gunkelman and Sons and then General Nutrition Mills as a Manager. In 1976, he co-founded Dakota Natural Foods, which most people recognize as the maker of Dakota Kid Sunflower Seeds. Tony was mostly involved with the mechanical side of the business and kept all of the equipment running. He was truly a “Dakota Kid”.
Upon retirement in 1999, Tony and Pam spent their time at their winter home in Treasure Island, FL, and summer home at Lake Lizzie, MN. He loved spending time with his family and many friends. He spent much of his free time repairing or building things and enjoyed helping everyone he could with their projects. Tony was a kind and generous man who will be missed by many.
Tony is survived by his wife, Pam; two daughters, Terri (Mark) Schultz, and Kristi (Brad) Sturn; four grandchildren, Ashley (Jared) Storstad, Jenna Schultz, Laiken Sturn, and Aidan Sturn; three great-grandchildren, Bella, Jersie, and Kingston Schultz; and two brothers, Charles Schreiner and James Schreiner.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, John and Tillie Schreiner; his sisters, Theresa, Annie, and Katie; brothers, John, Ben, Eugene, Alfred, Alphonse, Leo, and Elmer; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Betty Oberg.
Memorials are preferred to the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be one hour prior.
