Anne Marie Stennes, 88, of Harwood, ND, died peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2014.
Anne Marie Martinsen was born on May 15, 1926 in Drammen, Norway to Ole and Maranda Martinsen. She grew up in Norway and was a teenager there during the occupation years. She worked for the Red Cross in Drammen following the liberation. In 1946, Anne Marie traveled to America where she stayed with the Stennes family in Harwood, ND. While there, she met their son, Gordon, who was home from college at Concordia. After returning home to Norway for a short while, she returned to Harwood. On January 4, 1949 she married Gordon P. Stennes in Moorhead, MN.
Anne Marie and Gordon raised their four children in Harwood. During her life, she enjoyed traveling throughout the world. Anne Marie became a US Citizen in 1977. She was very involved with Zion Lutheran Church, was a 4-H leader, and served on the Board of Directors of Harwood State Bank for 28 years.
Gordon died suddenly in 1983 at the age of 59.
Anne Marie is survived by children, Karen (Robert) Zenger, Bayfield, CO; Bonnie (Timothy) McIntyre, Harwood, ND; Thomas (Karen) Stennes, Fargo, ND; Lisa Davies, Carmarthen, Wales, UK; seven grandchildren, David, Annika, Tessa, Mariell, Callum, Tatian, and John; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Malcolm Davies; and two sisters, Dagmar and Mary.
