Andrew "Andy" Lindvig

Andrew (Andy) Lawrence Lindvig, 89, long time Fargo and summer resident of Detroit Lakes, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 4th. Andy was born, December 10th, 1928 to Lucille and Andrew Lindvig in Fargo. He will be remembered for his kindness and his great love for his wife and for his family. He had a quiet, but witty sense of humor he shared with many. He will be greatly missed. Andy went to school at Agassi, Horace Mann and Roosevelt, then graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1946. He then attended North Dakota Agricultural College (NDSU) receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in1954 with studies in Economics.

The day after he graduated he began working for Ford Motor Company located on Broadway. He served in the Air Guard during the Korean War and was stationed in Georgia and California. When he returned home, he began working as a sales person at Ford and was promoted to management handling western North Dakota. In 1971 he joined NDSU as “Assistant Registrar” and truly enjoyed working with college aged kids. He retired in 1994 after a satisfying 23 years.

He met the love of his life, Joyce Klakeg, “Joycie" at a north Fargo skating rink called “CC Camp,” later called Mickelson Field. She was in seventh grade (Andy was in the 9th) and she went home that day and declared to her mom that she met the guy she was going to marry. They went to the DeMolay Dance when she was in 10th grade and from that point on they were inseparable. Andy and Joyce were married on August 28, 1953 at Olivet Lutheran Church and were together until her death in 2015. He was a devoted husband for 62 years and was a great example for his children and grandchildren.

In 1954 Andy and Joyce began building their cottage on Detroit Lakes. They worked hard and cherished their time there. It provided so many great memories of summer days for their family. He enjoyed yard work, bird watching, spending time in his garden across the road and woodworking in his shop. He also enjoyed relaxing in the evening by a warm fire. His hobby and love for woodworking turned into a side business, “Lindvig Wood Products.” His hand carved personalized signs for homes and greeting signs like “Velkommen” were sold throughout the United States. Recently, he made hundreds of Crayola marker set holders for kids, and provided coloring and art materials for them to enjoy.

Andy was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo where he ushered for over 40 years.

He is survived by his children Bruce (Pam) Scottsdale, AZ and Kathy Nelson (Dale) Detroit Lakes; and four grand children Clayton, Christopher, Austin and Erica.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his wife, Joyce.
