Andre C. Thomaier was called home on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the age of eighty six. Andre, called Andy by family and friends, was born in Fargo, ND on October 11, 1926, to Frederick and Gertrude (Larsen) Thomaier. Andy was of a third generation Fargo pioneer family.
He was a 1947 graduate from Fargo Central High School.
At age seventeen, Andy enlisted into the US Marine Corp. He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII as an Aircraft Mechanic. He was assigned to maintaining the Corsair Aircraft, of which he had a lifelong affection and interest. He was stationed in Okinawa and later participated with occupation forces in Tokyo.
He married Audrey Norman in June of 1952 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Andy worked 37 years as a Federal Employee, working for the Veterans Administration and for the USDA Bio Sciences Laboratory on the NDSU campus. He retired in 1983. His retirement was spent rooting for the MN Twins, Timberwolves, and Vikings, as well as NDSU sports. He traveled with his family and especially cherished a 2000 trip to England with his wife and daughter, following Audrey’s retirement.
Andy is survived by his wife, Audrey and daughter, Michele, Fargo; his four cats, especially his favorite, Torii; and two nieces, Mary Cabril and Susan Compo (California).
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yvonne Compo and her husband, Roy; and his father and mother-in-law, George and Selma Norman.
Andy’s family would like to thank all the caregivers at Sheyenne Care Center of Valley City, ND, which was his home away from home, as his family attempted to get him back to Fargo. But, the Lord called him home first.
