Amanda Thingvold was born March 6, 1916, to Elvin and Elsie (Peterson) Thingvold at Columbus, ND. She grew up on the family farm attending school in Leaf Mountain Township. She moved to Rugby, ND, working at various jobs. She met David A. Gronvold and they were united in marriage on February 16, 1941, in Sidney, MT. They lived in the Barton, ND, area, then moving to Portland, OR, returning to the Grafton, ND, area, to settle in Gardner where they farmed for a number of years. They raised three children and moved to Fargo in 1971. Amanda began working at St. Luke’s Hospital/MeritCare Environmental Services. Her job was important to her as her dedication and loyalty to the hospital earned her the MeritCare Excellence Services Award in 1990. She retired after over 25 years of service in 1992. Amanda was a wonderful cook and baker. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks and recipes. There are well over hundreds of cookbooks she has collaged over the years. Loving the outdoors, she often talked of how she and her sister, Hilda, especially enjoyed working with their Dad picking rocks and tending to the team of horses. Many a big garden was planted, lots of canning and freezing, raising chickens and milking cows. A favorite past time, after being able to relax, was embroidery. She made many sets of dishtowels and quilt blocks. In October of 2008, Amanda became a resident of Rosewood on Broadway. She met and made many friends and her special roommate, Sylvia. Amanda is dearly missed by her three children, daughters, Doreen Carlson, Fargo, ND; Dorla (Lloyd) Hanson, Fargo, ND; and son, Elvin (Faye) Gronvold, Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Arlene (Marv) Avery, Minot, ND; and Helen Huwe, Crosby, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother and five sisters. Funeral Service: 2pm, Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
