Alyssa Jenette Cary was born on July 27, 1987, in Fargo at what was then known as St. Luke's Hospital to parents Dale and Kay (Hagen) Cary. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 2005.
Alyssa worked in many service jobs as a waitress or bartender over the years.
Alyssa was very active in gymnastics from a young age. At one point, she was a member of the FM Acro gymnastics team. She participated in another form of gymnastics at Tramp & Tumble in Fargo. She qualified for and competed in national competitions in 1999 in Anaheim, California; in 2000 in Cincinnati, Ohio; and in 2001 in San Antonio, Texas.
She enjoyed participating in youth soccer and dance and attending high school activities with her group of close friends.
On December 21, 2006, Alyssa and Jon Rundle had a son, Casyn David Rundle at what was then known as Meritcare Hospital in Fargo.
Art has been one of the constants through the generations. She got her artistic talents from her grandmother Eunice. During her high school years, Alyssa enjoyed creating art in different media such as sculpture, drawing, and painting. In recent years, Alyssa liked to color in adult coloring books as well as watch her favorite shows and movies. She and her father bonded over watching a daily soap opera once or twice a week. She liked to travel, and she cruised with family when she was able to.
She loved to read and frequented area libraries with her grandmother Marcella "Jackie."
Alyssa is survived by her son, Casyn David Rundle, Pelican Rapids, MN; her parents, Dale and Kay (Hagen) Cary, Moorhead, MN; her grandmother Marcella Hagen, Fargo, ND; her sisters Briana (Scott) Petry and Jamie (Tyler) Baumann, both of Moorhead, MN; aunt Helen 'Kris' (Mark 'Box') Hagen, Fargo, ND; uncle James (Taunya) Hagen, Madison, WI; nephews Axel, Sawyer and Theodore; cousins Samantha Hagen and Jake Hagen both of West Fargo, ND; and her boyfriend Nicholas Johansen, Fargo, ND.
Alyssa was preceded in death by her grandparents Don and Eunice Cary, Twin Valley and her grandfather Wallace "James" Hagen, Fargo, ND.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 17, from 5-7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Hanson Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 18 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo.
A light lunch and fellowship will immediately follow the service.
Alyssa will be greatly missed by those that loved her.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all other medical staff at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo for their kindness and care of Alyssa.
