Alvin Fragodt

Alvin Fragodt, 82, of Fargo, ND, died peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Alvin Leon Fragodt was born to Edwin and Minnie (Sandven) Fragodt on April 27, 1928 in York, ND. He attended school in Baker, ND, graduating from Baker High School in 1946. He enlisted in the US Army in 1946. After his basic training in Maryland he served at General Headquarters Far East Command in Japan until his discharge as a Staff Sergeant in September 1948. Following his discharge he worked for Fragodt Construction Co. in Maddock, ND, until he entered college at North Dakota Agricultural College in 1950. He graduated with a B.S. Degree from NDAC in 1954. He joined the North Dakota Extension Service in 1956 serving as Extension Agent in McLean, Adams, and Cass counties. In 1957, he married Elaine Peterson at Britton, SD, and to this union, two daughters were born – Kathy “Kate” and Karla. In 1975 he received his Masters Degree from NDSU and became a 4-H Extension Youth Specialist at NDSU. He held this position until retiring in 1987, at which time he received the honorary title of Professor Emeritus. In the Fall of 1987, he began work with the North Dakota Ag Statistics, serving as supervisor of the telephone enumerators until retiring in 1996. Al was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years, usher, and was a member of the church council. He was a member of the American Legion and Sons of Norway. Alvin is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughters, Kate (David) Gausman, Fargo, ND and Karla (Dan) Fenstermaker, Centerville, MN; one grandson, John; brother, Harold (Bev) Fragodt, York, ND; and sister, Audrey Jacobson, Clarissa, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters. Funeral Service: 11:00AM, Friday, November 19, 2010, at Hope Lutheran Church – North Campus, Fargo, ND. Visitation: 5-7PM, Thursday, November 18, 2010, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Prayer Service: 7:00PM, Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
