Alice Viola (Domier) Voltz passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at Elim Nursing Home on July 18, 2018. Alice was born in Clifford, ND on June 28, 1923 to William and Clara (Sveum) Domier.
Alice married M.W. "Bud" Voltz on July 22, 1942 in Moorhead, MN. They made their home in rural Clifford, ND on the family farm (where she had been born) until 1959 when they purchased a farm in rural Mahnomen, MN. They farmed there until they retired in 1975 and moved to Mahnomen.
During her married years she raised her family, was an avid canner, was big into gardening and taking care of her beloved flowers. Alice and Bud loved to dance, play cards and get together with their friends and family.
Alice had several hobbies and interests. She loved to knit, crochet and quilt. She won many awards for her gardening, crocheting and quilting and was featured in the Minnesota Historical Society's Quilt Book. She belonged to the Homemaker's Club, Gardening, Quilters and Crocheting Clubs and was active at the First Lutheran Church, including participating in the Ladies' Aide. She was instrumental in organizing the Senior Citizen Center in Mahnomen.
Alice worked at the Red Apple Cafe for 13 years where she was renowned for her Sour Cream Raisin Pie, her delicious rolls, cookies, doughnuts, pies and dinner rolls.
Alice stayed in her house in Mahnomen following the death of Bud, taking care of her flowers and tending her garden. She moved to her apartment in Heritage House in 2005 and then moved to Elim in 2015 where she resided until her death.
Alice is survived by her five children, Ron (LaVonne), Barb (Dennis), Jean, Pam (Jim), and Judy; grandchildren: Terri (Kevin), Shelli (Mike), Deaune (Rich), Gerrilee (Derek), Darrin (Juli); ten great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Kaitlyn, Alexander, Sean, Rowan, Allison, Anna, Greta, Peder and Krista; along with her sister-in-law, Burnette and childhood friend, Lorraine Rygg.
She is preceded in death by her husband "Bud"; infant daughter Mary; granddaughter Micelle; brother Melvin; and her parents along with many other friends and family members.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Elim Nursing Home staff for their wonderful acts of kindness and love given to Alice and her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
