Alice Jeanette Jondahl, 95, Fargo, died on Monday, March 4, 2024 in Bethany on University.
Daughter of John 0. and Alma (Satrom) Jondahl, Alice was born December 24, 1928, on a farm near Galesburg, ND.
Alice graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946 and earned a BA degree from Concordia College in 1950 and a Master of Arts degree in English from NDSU in 1965. After teaching high-school students in Hope, ND, Fargo Central, and Fargo South for 41 years, Alice retired in 1991.
The North Dakota Broadcasting Co. named her the state's Outstanding Teacher in 1957. That epitomized a brilliant 41-year career for the English teacher, who received similar honors from the Fargo Public Schools in 1973, 1985, 1986 and 1991.
Her retirement years provided for relaxation, including travel. Especially enjoyed were a European Tour, several trips to Great Britain, and four trips to Norway, where she visited her father's birthplace near Dovre and stayed in the homes of relatives in Otta, Trondheim, and Oslo.
For many years Alice was an active member of Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was currently a member of the Fargo Retired Teachers Association, Cass County Area Retired Teachers Association, and the North Dakota Retired Teachers Association. She especially appreciated her years of fellowship as a member of Olivet Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Gilmore and his wife Ethel, a brother Philip, and great-nephew, Blaze Rohloff. Survivors include a sister-in-law Lilah; nieces Annette (Mark) Tommerdahl and Joan (Tom) Rohloff; nephews Paul (Ranelle), David (Wendy), and Mark Jondahl; 4 great nieces, and 2 great nephews.
Memorials are preferred to Olivet Lutheran Church or to donor's choice.
