Alice A. Hanson, 93, passed away on March 9, 2024, surrounded by family at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Alice was born February 10, 1931, in Fargo to Andrew and Grace (Baity) Lantz. The youngest of five children, she spent her first 12 years in Casselton, ND, before moving to Mayville, ND. She attended 6th-8th grade there before finally settling in Fargo for her high school years and beyond. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1949. She married Harland Hanson on September 14, 1952. They had four children: Sandy, John, Kevin and Carolyn. Alice and Harland were married 66 years before Harland passed in September 2018.
Alice attended Interstate Business School and worked for Crane Co and Northwestern Bell, all in Fargo. After marrying Harland, she was a homemaker but worked part-time during tax season for several years at Morud Tax Accounting. In the mid 1970’s when she and Harland bought out Charbonneau Construction Company and formed H&K Construction, she kept the books meticulously from their home office for 20 years until she and Harland retired in 1995.
Alice had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to read and play games, enjoyed sporting events (especially Red Hawks baseball games and watching golf on TV), loved camping at Camper’s Point Resort on Pelican Lake and later across the lake on Pelican Beach Resort. When distance and upkeep became too much, they sold their lake place and became F-M Red Hawks baseball season ticket holders, rarely missing a game. She and Harland were charter members of Hope Lutheran Church, and this is where her love for Jesus took root and blossomed. And while she loved being a mom, her favorite titles were that of Grandma and Great-Grandma.
Alice is survived by her four children: Sandy (Bob) Hoy, John (Ronda) Hanson, Kevin (Kari) Hanson, Carolyn (Scott) Trana, all of Fargo; 11 grandchildren: Jim (Heidi) Hoy, Kindred, ND; Dan Hoy, Horace, ND; Wade (Jenn) Hanson, West Fargo, ND; Michelle (Mike) Mages, St Cloud, MN; Ali Hanson, Chicago, IL; Matt (Katie) Trana, Waconia, MN; Sami Trana, Bemidji, MN; Kristin (Aaron) Sorvig, Katie Hanson, Kaia (Craig) Ehrmantraut, Cory Trana, all of Fargo; 11 great-grandchildren: Dawson, Elleigh & Bridger Hoy; Beckham, Lauren & Elin Sorvig; Kellen & Kierstin Landman; Sage Hanson; Colbie LaRocque; Lincoln Ehrmantraut.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 19th at 2:00pm at Hope Lutheran Church, 2900 Broadway N, Fargo, ND, with visitation an hour prior.
