Alice S. Gordon, 85, Fargo, ND, died Monday, December 25, 2006, at Meritcare, Fargo. Alice Stenhjem was born on August 27, 1921, near Davenport, North Dakota, to Arnold and Stella (Thoen) Stenhjem. She graduated from Davenport High School and Moorhead State Teachers College. Alice taught school in Hatton, ND, and later in Grandin, ND, where she also coached girls’ basketball. Alice married John Gordon on July of 1944. They lived in Grandin, where she was a substitute school teacher and a member of the Grandin Presbyterian Church. After John’s death in 1985, Alice moved to Fargo. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Gardner American Legion Auxiliary, El Zagal Shrine Honored Ladies, Order of Eastern Star, St. Andrew’s Society and United Presbyterian Women. Alice is survived by a daughter JoNelle (Wally) Grunewald, Erhard, MN; daughter-in-law, Patti Gordon, Fargo, ND; a brother, Erling (Alice) Stenhjem, Leonard, ND; a sister, Lillian Paige, Moorpark, CA; a sister-in-law, Hazel Stenhjem, Detroit Lakes, MN; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Alice is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John Duncan “J.D.” Gordon; sister, Arlene Alsager and brother, Truman Stenhjem. Memorial Service: 2:00 PM Friday, December 29, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Burial: 11:00 AM Friday at Grandin Cemetery, Grandin, ND
