A. Eleanor Cornelius, 99, of Ulen, MN, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010, at Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen. Alice Eleanor Gunkel was born June 12, 1911 in rural Hope, North Dakota, daughter of Rhinehart and Alice Mary (Lambert) Gunkel. The family moved to a farm near Hillsboro where she attended school. She helped her family with work on the farm. In 1932, Eleanor married Henry Cornelius and they moved to Fargo, ND. Henry died in 1962. While in Fargo, Eleanor worked at various housekeeping jobs. In 2001, Eleanor moved to assisted living at the Fairmont in Moorhead, Minnesota. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Moorhead, life member of Red River Handicapped Club; charter member of Golden Ridge Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for several years and made quilts; volunteer at the Village for 13 years. Eleanor was also a member of the YMCA for 11 years and really enjoyed water aerobics. Her greatest joy was making quilts which she made for all her children, grandchildren and friends as well as donating for various organizations. She also loved doing other fancy needle work. She is survived by five children, Vera (Bernie) Baumler, Wheatland, ND; Violet Wznick, Fargo, ND; David (Paula) Cornelius, Owosso, MI; Dennis, Gurner, IL; and Clifford (Marlys) Cornelius Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Henry; seven brothers and one sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Golden Ridge Lutheran Church ~ Fargo. Funeral Service: Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at 2:00 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the service. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
