John Finnie, 93, Fargo, ND died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Palliative Care at Sanford Health.
John was born in Hawarden, Iowa on September 21, 1921 to Albert and Milda (Detlie) Finnie. He was raised in Hudson, SD and attended NDAC (NDSU) graduating in 1942 with a degree in pharmacy. He worked as an army medic in WWII. John married Norma Jean Steinmeyer in 1952. They have two daughters, Barbara and Jane. John began working at St. Luke’s Hospitals in 1953 as a purchasing agent and pharmacist. In 1957, he was appointed assistant administrator, and in 1976, he became the President. He retired in 1985 after 32 years of service at St. Luke’s/MeritCare. Following his retirement he enjoyed pottery, volunteering at the Creative Arts Studio and summers at the family cottage on Lake Melissa.
John is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; daughters, Barbara Maag (Steve), Jane Roggensack (Rick); granddaughters, Adriane Maag (Logan Carney) and Caitlin Dahl (Tyler); great- grandchildren, Olivia Carney, and Ella and Carter Dahl.
