Sara Renée (Carlson) DCamp, 38 of West Fargo, ND died early Friday morning, October 15, 2021 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous five-year battle with rectal cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 21 at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, with lunch to immediately follow the service. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday.

Sara was born in Grand Forks, ND on November 1, 1982. She was baptized on January 30, 1983 at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Fargo.

She was a graduate of Fargo South High School in 2001, where she participated in the school’s concert band and jazz band, while playing clarinet, saxophone and piano.

Sara received a degree in Music Education (2005) from Minnesota State University Moorhead. It was at MSUM where she met the love of her life, Jarod DCamp, while performing in the MSUM Wind Ensemble.

They were married at Living Waters Lutheran Church in 2006, and made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area, where Sara was employed by Integreon Managed Solutions from 2007 to 2021.

Sara was a charter member of Living Waters Lutheran Church in Fargo where she served as the church’s music minister from 2005 to 2014, and as a pianist and vocalist from 2014 to 2020. She also taught piano lessons for a few years, helping to foster a love of music for several young musicians.

Sara was diagnosed with rectal cancer in September 2016 and was confirmed to be in remission in June 2017. Her cancer returned in August 2018, which led her and Jarod to co-found a non-profit organization called Love Your Buns. Since its formation, Love Your Buns has worked to raise awareness of young-onset colorectal cancer, empower patients and caregivers with knowledge and resources, and programs to improve the quality of life of patients and survivors.

Her efforts with Love Your Buns have been highly impactful, lauded as having saved lives and improving the patient treatment experience. She received the Colorectal Cancer Champion of the Year award in 2020 from the North Dakota Colorectal Cancer Roundtable and was a YWCA Woman of the Year nominee in 2020.

Sara was fully devoted to her family and to God. She had powerful faith that lifted the spirits of those around her, and her faithfulness was unwavering, regardless of the challenges she faced in life.

Sara is survived by her husband Jarod DCamp; children Callum, Brittyn, and Camden; parents Robert and Natalie Carlson; mother-in-law Ronda DCamp; siblings Rachel (Scott) Hanson, Nick (Alison) Carlson and Laura Carlson; brother-in-law Scott (April) DCamp; nephews Storm DCamp and Lincoln Hanson; niece Isabel Hanson and grandparents Dick Quaal and Maurine Juanita Floyd Quaal.
