Evelyn "Evie" Finsness
September 20, 1925 — May 9, 2020
Evelyn Mae Hansen Finsness, age 94, passed away at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND, on May 9, 2020.
Evelyn, daughter of Herman and Alice Hansen, was born September 20, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in St. Louis Park, MN and graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1943. She held several office positions in Minneapolis and met her future husband John when they were both employed by the M&StL Railway. She married John Finsness on June 5, 1948. They moved to Fargo, ND, where John practiced law. They were members of First Lutheran Church, where Evelyn was in ELCW, Circle, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
Evelyn will be remembered by her family as a loving and generous mother. Evelyn enjoyed music, playing piano, needlepoint and embroidery, movies, traveling, reading, baking, fishing, playing bridge, and singing in her church choir. She went on several cruises and did many years of volunteer work. She especially cherished attending church services at First Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank Evelyn’s devoted caregivers at Bethany Homes and the supportive staff of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and her brother John Hansen. Her sister Mary Dahlgren passed away soon after Evelyn, on May 13.
Evelyn is survived by daughters Janet (Bruce) Meyer, Linda (Mike) Swanston and son Andrew (Elizabeth) Finsness; eight grandchildren; John (Jill) Meyer, Scott (Julia) Meyer, Daniel Meyer, Michaela Swanston, Molly (Alexa) Swanston, Andrew (Kerstin) Finsness, Kate Finsness and Maria Finsness and seven great- grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to either First Lutheran Church music fund or The New Life Center.
