Charles “Charley” Jones was born September 20, 1951, to Willard Jay and Donna (Parkhouse) Jones at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, ND.
As a child, Charley loved to spend time at the Jones Resort on the Rainy River on Lake of the Woods. He attended North Dakota State College of Science from 1969-1970 before joining the Air National Guard. He was involved in drag racing and oval track racing before he began working at Red River Lanes in Fargo in 1970. He became proprietor in 1975, continuing until his retirement in 2015 when his son Michel became the sole proprietor.
Charley married Mary Jean “MJ” Payne on June 11, 1971, and they had three children. Charley was very involved in the sport of bowling. He bowled in 32 USBC National Tournaments, was inducted into the ND Bowling Hall of Fame as well as the Fargo Bowling Hall of Fame and served as President of the ND Bowling Proprietors Association for 20 years. Charley achieved the perfect 300 game as well as the nearly impossible, 806 series.
Charley enjoyed spending time fishing with his family; hiking with his grandchildren in Idaho and spending mornings having coffee and playing cribbage with his wife.
Charley passed away on May 23, 2022 in Fargo, ND.
He is survived by his wife, MJ; daughters, Jennifer Jones (Kip Sweat), Kalispell, MT and Amanda (Don) Collins, West Fargo, ND; son, Michel (Kathy Cahill Jones) Jones, Argusville, ND; grandchildren, Zackary Ray (Kelly Valentin), Nickolaus Ray, Kadelyn Ray (Trevor Nees), Geoff (Katie) McCollum, Courtney McCollum (Drew Vetter), Andrew Jones, Alexander Mapel (Abbie Vrem), Ethan Collins (Lexi Witt); 5 great-grandchildren; mother, Donna Mae Parkhouse Jones; brothers, David (Kim) Jones and Richard (Marj) Jones; sister, Kathy (Jay) Temchack and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Jones, brother, Ron Jones, father and mother-in-law, Gene and Betty Payne.
A Celebration of Life to honor Charley will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, June 1 at the Avalon Events Center, Fargo. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM.
