Barbara (Barb, Bobbie) June (Pingree) Armstrong, age 79 of Fargo, ND passed away at Bethany Nursing Home in Fargo, ND on Monday, July 18, 2011, where she had resided the last seven years. Barbara suffered from Dementia. Barbara was born June 16, 1932 in Fargo. Barbara met Lloyd while roller skating in Fargo. She was married to Lloyd Armstrong in the Landstad Church of rural Perley, MN on June 4, 1955. She and Lloyd were married for 47 years when Lloyd passed away in June 2002. They lived in Fargo their entire marriage and were members of Messiah Lutheran Church. Barbara grew up on a farm near Georgetown, MN and attended school in Perley and Hendrum, MN and graduated from Moorhead high school in 1950. After graduating high school, she began working for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator in July 1950 where she retired in 1984. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Barbara’s favorite activity was shopping. Her family would often tease her that she had blueprints of the stores in the West Acres shopping center so that she could quickly and easily find the sales she wanted to attend. She enjoyed flowers and would often go on garden tours around Fargo and Moorhead. As a child, she was a member of the Georgetown 4H Club. She also enjoyed working with ceramics, bowling and participating in church activities. One of the highlights of Barbara’s life was when she and Lloyd and Nancy traveled to Scotland to learn about the Armstrong family line. Barbara is survived by her sons, Jim Armstrong and his wife Melody, (Powder Springs, GA), Terry Armstrong and his wife Debbie, (Moorhead, MN), and her daughter, Nancy Armstrong, (Euless, TX). She had two grandchildren, Shane Armstrong living in CO (Terry’s son) and Lindsey Armstrong (Jim and Melody’s daughter). Barbara is survived by her brother, Donald (Kathy) Pingree (Georgetown, MN) sister, Sharon Pingree (Bert Hertzog) (Winstead, MN) and sister-in-law, Lorraine Brunette. Preceding her death were Lester and Leona (Yockey) Pingree and sister, Irene Kamletz. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her many dear friends, who loved her and visited her often while she was at Bethany. Visitation for Barbara is scheduled for Friday, July 22, 2011, from 5 – 7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Funeral services for Barbara will be Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo. Barbara will be placed next to her husband, Lloyd, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.
