William “Bill” Anderson, 57, of Fargo, ND, died Friday June 8, 2012, in his home after a 20 month battle with cancer. Bill was surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. He was the epitome of courage and inspiration with his positive determination to beat cancer.
Bill was born October 4, 1954 in Fargo, ND, to Edwin R. and LaVern M. (Weisser) Anderson. He grew up in Fargo, ND and attended Fargo North High School, graduating in 1973. Upon graduation, he worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company on Broadway in Fargo from 1973-1984. He began his career in General Service and went on to become Service Manager and Assistant Manager. In 1984, he accepted a managerial position with the Goodyear Corporation and successfully managed two different store locations in St. Paul, Minnesota.
On August 31st, 1985, Bill married Julie (Retrum) Anderson in Breckenridge, MN. He said the birth of his daughter, Megan, was the most important day of his life. They made their home in White Bear Lake, MN, until 1991 when he returned to Fargo and became the Manager of Schumacher Goodyear on 13th Avenue South, serving as Store Manager for 21 years until his death.
Along with his strong work ethic, Bill’s passions were the El Zagal Shrine serving with the Ritualistic Divan, working the Shrine Circus, and Corn Feed. He was also proud of his work with the Masonic Temple, of which he was a Past Master of Shiloh Lodge #1, receiving the King Solomon Award in 2006. He was also very active in the Great Western (F-M) Exchange Club. He loved to golf and grill during the summers. His last and most memorable vacation he took was a place he always wanted to visit and that was his trip to Alaska with Julie.
Bill was a gentle soul with a huge heart and will be remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and unending friendship. He had a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and quick wit that made him fun to be around. His kindness and generosity will be greatly missed. Bill cherished time spent with family and friends, especially his “poker buddies”. He was loved by many and a friend to all.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law Ethel (Anderson) Retrum, Breckenridge Mn.
He is survived by his wife Julie (Retrum) Anderson, and daughter Megan Anderson, Fargo; sister Pamela (Anderson) Phillips, Jamestown; brother Frank Anderson (Linnea), Fargo; sister Sue (Dave Draovitch) Anderson, Bismarck, brother-in-law Kevin (Karen) Retrum; several cousins, nieces, and nephew.
Memorial Service: Thursday, June 14, 2012, 2:00 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, followed by a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM.
