Shirley (Veen) Short was born on February 9, 1932, in Wells County, North Dakota, to Gust and Selma (Gedrose) Veen. She was the ninth of 10 children. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade and completed high school in New Rockford, North Dakota, in 1950. She married Vernon Short in 1952, and they made their home in Fargo, where they raised their three children. Shirley worked in the insurance business from 1960 to 1989, and after semi-retirement, worked for Beltone part-time until fully retiring in 1992. After Vernon's death in 1993, Shirley became a Snowbird, dividing her time between Big Cormorant Lake, Sauk Centre, and Mesa, Arizona. She moved into Eventide Independent Living Center in Moorhead, MN, in 2017. She left us peacefully on October 9, 2020.
Shirley was preceded by her husband, Vernon; parents, brothers Rudolph and Guy, sisters Bergetta, Agnes, Norma, Stella, Eleanor, and Evelyn. She is survived by her son, Roger (Susan) Short, Concord, CA; Barbara (Curt) Lundberg, Fargo, ND; and
Linda (Garth) Koller, San Marcos, California; Grandchildren: Katie (Mike) Clausen, Concord, CA; Patrick Short, Concord, CA; Karen Lundberg, Eden Prairie, MN; Mike Lundberg, Fargo, ND; Sabrina Koller, Santa Monica, CA; Daniel Koller, San Marcos, CA; Amanda Koller, St. Paul, MN; and Anthony Koller, Vista,
CA - and four great-grandchildren Carl, Charlotte, Caroline, and Carson Clausen; Brother, Harland Veen; sisters-in-law, Joan Anderson, and Lorraine Veen brother-in-law, Marvin Short, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Hanson – Runsvold funeral home on Thursday, October 15, 2020. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., and funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by graveside services at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.
