Marlys Hofstrand, 95, of Fargo, ND, died January 17, 2020 in Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead, MN.
Marlys Arleen Camrud was born October 2, 1924, to Martin and Alma (Luidahl) Camrud at Devils Lake, North Dakota. They moved to Maddock, ND, where she attended school till 1939, when they moved to Larimore, ND. She graduated from Larimore High School in 1942. Marlys graduated from St. Luke’s (MeritCare) School of Nursing, Fargo, ND in 1945. She spent six months in the Army Cadet Corps. at Brigham City, Utah.
Marlys was united in marriage to Marvin Hofstrand of Brinsmade, North Dakota, in 1946. They lived in Fargo, ND, where she worked at the Fargo Clinic, St. Luke’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Hospital. They moved to Bismarck, ND, in 1952. They lived there for two years before moving to Devils Lake, ND, where she worked as Ramsey County Public Health Nurse. They returned to Fargo in 1956. Marlys was employed as a school nurse in the Moorhead, MN, School District for 27 years, retiring in 1986.
She was active in various nursing organizations and was on the Minnesota State Board of School Nurses for several years. Marlys was an active member of Olivet Lutheran Church since 1946; Sons of Norway since 1975; on the board of MeritCare Auxiliary. She was a long-time volunteer in all three organizations.
Marlys is survived by son, Craig (Sue Colebank) Hofstrand, DeLand, FL; daughter, Connie (Steve) Catron, Clovis, CA; daughter-in-law, Nancy (Stenhjem) Hofstrand, Lake Park, MN; grandson, Carl (Nozly Hosseini) Catron, Fresno, CA; brother, James (Carole) Camrud, Mesa, AZ; sisters, Marian Bjornstad, Stockton, CA, Dorothy Knudtson, Billings, MT and Florence (Phillip) Knutson, Coon Rapids, MN; three great-grandchildren, Alexa, Cambria and Cole Catron and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Marvin Hofstrand, son, Eric Hofstrand, brother, Ivan Camrud, sister-in-law, Jo Camrud, brother-in-law, Lawrence Bjornstad, brother-in-law, Art Knudtson, brother-in-law, Don Thompson, and sister-in-law, Carol Thompson.
Marlys will be remembered as a compassionate nurse and will be missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Olivet Lutheran Church or Sons of Norway.
