Marlowe Duane Olson

November 11, 1944 — June 8, 2018

Marlowe D. Olson’s earthly journey ended on June 8, 2018, after a short battle with cancer. He left knowing his loved ones are in a good place in their lives and he was at peace.

Marlowe was born in Nov. 11, 1944 to Edward and Phyllis (Hanson) Olson in Hatton, ND. The young family moved to Valley City where he graduated from Valley City High School in 1962. He attended NDSS in Wahpeton. About this time he joined the ND Army National Guard serving as a medic which he did for about 12 years. During this time he also worked at Peavy Elevator. He married Patricia Holm of Fingal, ND in 1971. 2 daughters, Sarah and Christine were born during this marriage.

He moved to Fargo in 1976 and work for Goldberg Seed and Grain. He was offered the opportunity to become full time recruiter for the Minnesota National Guard in Moorhead which he did and retired from the military after a total of 22 years in 1990. He then started another career working as a grain handler for Anheuser-Busch in Moorhead which he also retired from in 2010. He married Judy Hamre of Audubon, Mn in 1976 and they had 2 sons, Zachary and Andrew. They parted ways in 1988 yet remained friends.
Marlowe was a big MN Twins fan; NY Giants football fan and UND hockey fan. His favorite past times were photography, watching sports with all his children and being social at restaurants while having coffee. He was a nice man who was friendly and modest except when it came to talking about his children and their accomplishments and how proud he was of his grandchildren. He also was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.

Left behind to mourn his passing: Sarah Parkman (fiancee’ Todd Fuglestad) Rogers, ND; her children, Francis Parkman, Marla (Jamie) Sailor and Jordan Parkman. Christine (Eric) Vinje, Glyndon, MN; their children, Mikenzie Vinje and Parker Vinje at home. Zachary Olson (friend Nicole Clark) of Fargo. Andrew Olson of Ewa Beach, HI. Great grand-children, Brittyn Sailor, Colton Parkman and Marliegh Meland; and favorite 4-legged friend, Cooper. Others who will miss him are his coffee buddies and the waitresses at his favorite coffee hangouts. He is also survived by former spouses Patricia Johnson of Valley City and Judy (Rodney) Gartner of Fargo, special friend Mike (Sandra) Knutson of Moorhead, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant twin brother.
