Kay Louise Jund, age 80, of Fargo, ND, died on Monday, December 25, 2023, at her Edgewood Vista home with family present. A small, private family Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
Kay was born to Harold Lamar and Gene Francis (Wolfe) Collett on May 9, 1943, in Aberdeen, SD. Kay was the oldest of three daughters, who grew up on a family farm outside of Ellendale, ND. She attended country school for her first eight years before attending Ellendale High School. She enrolled at the State Teachers College - Ellendale, where she met her future husband-to-be, Thomas John Jund, of Zeeland, ND. In 1962, Kay and Tom were married in Ellendale, ND. They lived in Sykeston, ND, for two years before moving to Forman, ND, where they raised their family of four children. Kay worked as a Paraprofessional (Teachers' Aide) within the Sargent Central School District during most of those years. In April of 1990, Kay and Tom bought and managed the Char-Mac Resort on Little Pine Lake near Perham, MN. Due to Tom's health problems, Kay and Tom sold the resort in 1992 and moved into Perham. Tom retired while Kay continued her work as a Paraprofessional within the Perham School District. During her summers, she worked at Jeans, The Right Plant Place in Perham, and also started her own landscaping/gardening business called 'Have Hoe, Will Travel!' for clients in the lakes area. A year after Tom suddenly passed away on October 7, 2005, Kay retired and moved to Lisbon, ND, to be closer to her youngest three grandchildren.
Throughout her life and especially during her retirement years, Kay found much enjoyment in spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of them all, and they brought her great pleasure, lots of laughs, and non-stop entertainment. Her next great love was any and all kinds of flowers and plants! She took many pictures over the years of all the flower gardens she saw when traveling and going on day trips.
Kay had a variety of interests and hobbies throughout the years, including but not limited to caring for her own flower and vegetable gardens, sewing clothing and also Barbie doll clothes for her daughters, reading, cross stitching, league bowling, coffee with friends, working in her clients' gardens, traveling with her husband and/or sister and brother-in-law (Diana and Jerry Haberer), trail riding in AZ, and collecting original Fiestaware. She became a "Crazy Cat Lover" and owned four cats at different times in her later years: Sassy, Mickey, Mouse, and Topenga, with all of them being rescues. She loved to shop anywhere flowers and plants were sold!
Kay is survived by her four children, Genieve (Tom) Thayer-Colfax, ND, Tom (Marie) Jund-Havre, MT, Tracy Jund-Lisbon, ND, Amy Walden (Paul) Romero--Kokomo, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Kayla Gutzmer (Matt Guthmiller) Fargo, ND, Kellin (Shauna) Jund-Havre, MT, Rylan (Alyssa) Gutzmer-Wyndmere, ND, Destiny (Ryan) Shelstad-Havre, MT, Brant Jund-Mankato, MN, Myah Jund (Glenn Lere)-Fargo, ND, Ethan Jund-Lisbon, ND; five great-grandchildren, Berkley Jund, Kason Jund, Gabby Gutzmer, Drew Gutzmer, Ember Shelstad; two sisters, Diana (Jerry) Haberer-Bouse, AZ, Mary (Bob) Schmidt-Ellendale, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and many extended family members.
The small, private family Celebration of Life will be held at the Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, 215 7th St. South, Fargo ND, on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
All memorials will be sent to the Hospice of the Red River Valley and to the Cat's Cradle Rescue in Fargo. In lieu of flowers, please donate to these or another charity of your choice in memory of Kay.
