Judith Marie Prentice, affectionately known as Judy, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Fargo, North Dakota, at Bethany retirement home on 42nd at the age of 77. She was born June 19, 1947, in Rugby, North Dakota, to Joel and Delores (Meyer) Vangsnes. Judy grew up on a farm in rural Rugby, North Dakota, alongside her 3 brothers, Judy being the oldest.

She attended Rugby High School with the Class of 65’. A fond memory shared by teacher, Bob Stenson, was Judy's ability to excel in typing at 110 words per minute on a manual typewriter.  After graduation, Judy attended Interstate Business College and Moorhead State University. In College, Judy and David Prentice of Detroit Lakes (co-founder of the Unbelievable Uglies) fell madly in love. Shortly after they were united in marriage, April 15, 1967, they welcomed three daughters Jill, Dawn, and Heather. Despite their marriage ending, they always remained good friends.

Throughout Judy's life, she had an in-home daycare for 13 years, was a dispatcher at Sioux Line Trucking company, and worked at Ice Crystal Engineering later in life. She welcomed nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who she cherished. Judy was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, cousin, niece, aunt, and grandmother.

She was a devoted sports fanatic; the Vikings, Bison, and Twins were among her favorites. Known for her green thumb beyond the garden, her passion for canning was equally remarkable. Her pickles, tomato juice, and, laughably, her “hundred bean chili“ were family favorites. While she may be gone, her strong desire for reinforcing the importance of family ties will always be a part of us.

Judy is survived by her three children, Jill (Derek) Sebastian of Fargo, ND, Dawn Prentice of Fargo, ND, son in-law, (Mike Williams), Moorhead, MN, Heather (Tony) Hart, Fargo, ND;  brothers, Michael Vangsnes, Pensacola, FL, Bruce (Robyn) Vangsnes, Fargo, ND; and sister in-law, Kathy Vangsnes, Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Brittany Norman - children, Adaline and Emma, Fargo, ND, Megan Sebastian - child, Sonny, Fargo, ND, Christopher Sebastian, Fargo, ND, Tessa Williams (Lynell), Moorhead, MN, Zoi and Mya Williams, Ian Prentice-Williams, Moorhead, MN, Benjamin Hart, Fargo, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mark Vangsnes; and grandchild, James Prentice-Williams; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

Her remains will eventually be buried next to her family in Rugby, ND.

We are very grateful and would like to extend a special thank you to Bethany on 42nd, the staff in Cottage Oaks, Ethos Hospice and the residents she became friends with during her stay.
