Jacqueline (Jackie) Vandal, 69, Horace, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from complications of Covid 19 at Sanford Health in Fargo. She was fortunate that her family was able to have in person visits with her and they were with her when she passed peacefully.
Jackie was born on August 18, 1951 to Phillip and Alma (Casavant) Berube in Rolla, ND. She was the baby of the family and grew up with seven older siblings on their Rolette County family farm. She attended Notre Dame Academy boarding school in Willow City, ND until it closed in 1968. She then attended her senior year at St. Catherine’s in Valley City, ND where she graduated in 1969.
On August 1, 1970 Jackie married her one true love, Robert (Bob) Vandal, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Rolla and this past August celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Together they raised four children – Monique (Kevin) Jackson of Horace; Michelle (Jerry) Powell of Cleo Springs, OK; Philip (Jenn) Vandal of Fargo, ND; and Christopher (Julie) Vandal of Wichita, KS.
Jackie was a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and was active in Cursillos, Marriage Encounter, Teen Encountering Christ, Catholic Youth Advisory Council, and the church Altar Society.
Throughout her life she held many jobs both in Rolla and the Fargo area. She was a stay home mom and had a home daycare; worked in retail - including Ben Franklin, Alco, Burlington Coat Factory, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Hobby Lobby where she made lifetime friends. She worked as an activity director assistant at the Long-Term Care unit in Rolla. She retired from Agnes Family Vision two years ago as a Vision Therapy Assistant where she loved seeing children improve both behaviorally and academically because of the work she did.
She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, cake decorating, watching movies and spending time with her grandchildren – Dylan, Colby and Bryson Jackson; Emily Powell; Clay and Grayson Vandal; and Dexter and Carter Vandal. She and Bob loved camping and taking quiet drives exploring different areas of the country.
Jackie enjoyed collecting milk glass and music boxes. Her grandchildren loved to choose a music box for her to play for them when they visited.
Christmas was Jackie’s favorite time of the year. It is comforting to know she will be enjoying this Christmas with her loved ones in heaven. She is most likely in a competitive International Rummy card game right now with those loved ones who joined the Lord before her. Her parents Phillip and Alma Berube; Father and Mother-in-law Amedee (Bill) and Marie Vandal; brothers Leonel and Harvey Berube; sisters Delima (Didi) Grassel, Lorette Leonard; and brother in laws Urbain Cote, Jim Grassel; and Dave Morman.
Those left to remember and miss her quick smile, infectious laugh, kind heart, patience, caring and abundance of love are her husband Bob; her children and their families; sisters Vivian Cote of Lynden, WA; Julie (Donald) Lentz of Rolla, ND; brother Adrian (Cindy) Berube of Lakota, ND; sister-in-laws Darlene Berube of Fargo; Bonnie Berube of Enumclaw, WA; Bonnie (Doug) Moquin of Phillips, WI; Yvonne Morman of Lake Tomahawk, WI; Bev (Dennis) Cote of Rolla, ND; brother-in-laws Bill Leonard of Mountlake Terrace, WA; Bernard (Julie) Vandal of Bismarck, ND; Andre (Grace) Vandal of Apple Valley, MN; Jim (Sue) Vandal of Grand Forks, ND; Dave (Alice) Vandal of Sabin, MN; Perry (Laura) Vandal of New Hope, MN. As well as any nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jackie’s family wants to thank the amazing healthcare workers and support staff that cared for her at Sanford in the Covid Unit, Med/Surg and ICU floors. Their dedication and support to our family during these uncertain times was very appreciated.
